OBRA EN ESPACIO PÚBLICO / PUBLIC WORK
"Many of my monumental works are a progression of smaller scale sculpture that I have developed. On the other hand some of my
public sculptures are commissions, so can be very site specific and very individual in subject matter. It is an artist's dream to leave
a legacy. I think one of the best ways of achieving this is through monumental public art. Public art connects present and future
generations directly to the artist. Particularly with sculpture, even hundreds of years after its creation, you can still touch the sculpture
and feel a connection with the artist - you can sense the artist's hands modelling the sculpture. This is something that can generate
everlasting communication."
In April 2003, Lorenzo's monumental sculpture, 'Encounters', commissioned by Fundatur and donated to the city of Mallorca, was
unveiled opposite the Museum of Modern Art in Palma de Mallorca. In October 2005, Halcyon Gallery, along with the Birmingham
Air Raids Remembrance Association, donated Lorenzo's touching 'Tree of Life' sculpture to the City of Birmingham - in memory of
all those who lost their lives during the air raids of WWII. November 2005 saw the inauguration of one of Lorenzo's largest public
sculptures, the magnificent 'Rise Through Education' in Doha, Qatar. At an impressive eight metres in height, this monument was
specially commissioned by the State of Qatar to commemorate the completion of the Aspire Academy of Sports Excellence - a
state of the art sports college containing the world's largest indoor sporting arena.
Adorning the interior of the academy is a further
sculpture by Lorenzo entitled 'Reaching for Gold' that depicts each student's need to strive to achieve excellence. In February 2008,
Lorenzo held a major one man exhibition for the opening of Halcyon Gallery's new London Mayfair premises. The exhibition entitled
'Evolution' was the culmination of Lorenzo's work over the past two decades. A new book 'Lorenzo Quinn' commemorating his
work was also published to accompany this exhibition. The work in this exhibition aptly portrayed the journey that the artist had
undertaken. "I have injected a lifetime of experience into Evolution - it is about my past, present and future."
In the summer of 2009 'Love' - a 2 metre aluminium sculpture, went on public display in Ibiza and will also be shown in London
later in the year. In September 2009, Lorenzo's dramatic sculpture, 'View into the Future', commissioned by Bacardi, was unveiled in
the town of Sitges, Spain. October 2009 saw the inauguration of another public commission for the Fraga Council in Lleida, Spain.
November 2009 will see the installation of a monumental piece 'Give & Take' which stands over 3 metres tall and will sit in Berkeley
Square, London to coincide with the exhibition of a new body of work entitled 'Equilibrium' at Halcyon Gallery.
Lorenzo is currently working on commissions for public and private placement in Europe and the Middle East.
